Daniel Poliquin is arguably Ottawa’s most famous Francophone writer. He is read throughout Canada and abroad. Several of his novels have been translated into English, a sign of their high literary quality. La Kermesse has even been published in Slovenian, under the title Semenj (2009)!
Poliquin is also known for his own literary translations. He has produced French translations of authors such as Jack Kerouac, Mordecai Richler and Matt Cohen. Two of his translations, Thomas King’s L’Indien malcommode and Alexandre Trudeau’s Un barbare en Chine nouvelle, earned him Governor General’s Awards, the highest literary distinction in the country!
