At the turn of the 20th century, relations between the minority and the majority in Ontario become increasingly tense. Particularly intense conflicts break out in the school sector. This discord prompts public expression, both verbal and written. Intellectuals and writers produce speeches, manifestos and pamphlets. Many newspapers come into being. Franco-Ontarian literature becomes a literature of struggle.
